An écorché (french: "flayed") is a technique where an artist uses soft tissue landmarks (e.g. curvature of muscles) to determine the underlying musculature and skeleton of the subject. After finishing my sketch I overlayed tracing paper and drew my Subjects outline before then sketching the outlines of muscles and bone. Once my initial painting was completed I created a new layer and painted in the full skull, then the musculature before created a final layer to depict glands and major arteries/veins.

For this image I forced myself to draw only tones and avoid drawing an outline (a bad habit of mine that I use to anchor my drawing).
